People who are planning to go on a diet think they should not eat for 2meals a day only to pig out on steak, chocolate, and chips later in the day. Many people have fallen for it, but you're not alone. Millions of Americans are facing a tremendous weight problem despite fitness programs and equipment made available each year. So if you are one of the hapless millions who have tried everything, here are ten simple and practical weight loss tips to help you lose weight and keep it off.
1. Eat on smaller plates.
People finish what they eat - whether it's pop corn in a supersized bowl or large bowl of ice cream, leading to excessive pounds that are only hard to get rid of later. But prevention is better than cure, they say, so avoid too much calories by eating on smaller plates or bowls, and utensils.
Research shows that people are not aware of how much food they eat when they use large plates. But using smaller plates, bowls or utensils can make you full while eating less.
2. Learn portion control.
People get fat because they don't measure how much food they eat, period. I don't suggest that you use scales and rulers, but you can use your hand and other visual representations to measure how much is enough, since "moderate" means differently to every one. For example, a deck of cards is equivalent to a 3-ounce serving. A ping pong ball is equivalent to 2 tablespoons of salad dressing. And a cup of pasta or rice is equivalent to a baseball.
3. Eat whole grains and high-fiber cereals.
Replace chips and cookies with high-fiber cereals. You don't have to deprive yourself of nutrients when going on a diet; you can gain lots of nutrients while trying to lose weight. Research shows that dieters who ate cereals high in fiber and whole grains were able to lose weight effectively while improving the quality of their diet.
4. Recognize hunger triggers.
Is it real hunger, or is it just boredom? Recognize the real hunger trigger firstbefore you go look for food. If it's just boredom, do something else. If you're stressed, talk to a friend or get a massage.
5. Mind your beverage.
Another culprit to excessive pounds is that beverage that goes along with a valuemeal. For Americans, they make up 50% of daily excessive calories. Cut back on soft drinks, coffee and fruit drinks and replace them with unsweetened tea and coffee.
6. Eat more protein.
Eating foods high in protein can make you feel full longer than when you eat a meal with no protein-rich food. So include an egg, meat, or any other source of protein to make you less hungery later.
7. Surround yourself with low-calorie foods.
Your tendency to snack on chips and chocolates increase when they are present in your fridge. Next time, buy fruits and high-fiber cereals when you go shopping and keep them in your kitchen.
8. Eat breakfast.
It's not called the most important meal of the day for nothing. And for dieters, it has an additional benefit - it prevents you from binge eating later.
9. Drink lots of water.
When you are dining out, your diet has the chance to be ruined because of all the good food in front of you. The trick is to drink a big glass of water first before eating that main meal. It curbs your appetite and makes you want to eat less because you're already "full."
10. Eat everything in moderation.

Why Salt Is Good For You Now?
Sodium (or what we commonly refer to as salt) has always been accused as the culprit responsible for high blood pressure, especially if it is taken in large amount (more than 2000mg per day). The consequences of high blood pressure will be higher risks of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and stomach and nose cancer. Recently, this "bad gut" has become a star when research shows that it may reduce risk of heart disease. Of course, the salt mentioned here is not regular but potassium-enriched salt.
Taiwanese researchers at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica in Taipei conducted a study involving nearly 2,000 elderly Taiwanese men found that those who opted for a substitute - containing half potassium and half sodium chloride - were less likely to die of heart disease or stroke in the following 2 to 3 years. The study suggested the mineral potassium may possibly protect blood vessel function, thus helping lower the risk of death from heart disease or stroke.
The men were divided into 2 groups. One group was randomly assigned to eat food prepared using potassium-enriched salt while the other group ate food cooked with regular salt. In the following two-and-a-half years, those who had eaten food with potassium-enriched salt showed a 40 percent lower risk of dying from CVD (cardiovascular disease). Adjustments for previous medical history and age did not affect the results.
Again, this study has aroused some comments or concerns from other experts in the field. It is unarguable that a reduction in the intake of sodium can lead to a lower blood pressure. The trial findings also showed that sodium and potassium may also have important roles in determining CVD yet concrete evidence is still required to be collected using long term studies. Moreover, it is unclear that whether the trial was also accompanied by an increased intake of fruit and vegetables, which are rich sources of potassium.
Sodium and potassium are minerals found naturally in our bodies. They help regulate the body's water balance and maintain functions such as heart rhythm, muscle contraction and brain function. Studies have showed that diets high in potassium-rich food such as raisins, potatoes, bananas and orange juice, help maintain a healthy blood pressure.
Nevertheless, the bottom line for any healthy lifestyle is that one cannot depend solely on a single item. A balance diet complemented with moderate exercise is almost unavoidable. This is a universal law that is often ignored by many of us.

How to Best Apply Makeup to Cover Up Acne

Applying makeup when pimples are prominent can be quite a challenge for a woman. But with a good set of procedures in place for doing this, it can work quite well.
The initial step should be to wash the face gently with cold water and a mild soap. Preparation for application of makeup can be easier with proper hygiene. Over washing the face can actually damage the skin, but carefully washing the face once or twice a day, especially with cold water and a mild soap or cleanser can do wonders. Also proper skin care using moisturizers and exfoliants can help keep the skin clear and healthy and help to keep the acne problem in check.
Then apply an astringent when the face is dry. This is universally available in any drugstore or pharmacy.
If there are a few blemishes, try using a concealer. This goes right on the blemish and blends in nicely to hide the acne. Then with your fingers carefully apply foundation to the blemished area. Do it this way wherever needed.
After you have done this continue with the standard application of your makeup and then finish up by applying face power. You will see that pimples will be much less prominent.
Note that makeup can have the problematic effect of clogging your pores. Be sure to use a brand of makeup that will not clog pores. These types of makeup have been designed and marketed to teenagers with acne problems. Many times this type of makeup will come with complete instructions. Often these makeup products contain ingredients that kill bacteria and help clean out pores.
Many women choose not to wear makeup when acne is acting up, but the anxiety of teenage years can be lessened when one can wear makeup.
